Many companies are looking for solutions to lower their energy consumption. Reasons for doing so may be to reduce costs or to lower their global footprint. Whatever the reason, the options are numerous. What often remains unknown is that many solutions can be found in patent databases, such asEspacenet.comor Google Patents. These databases contain patents disclosing valuable technical solutions to lower energy consumption. Those solutions may not per se be complex or expensive to implement (the difficulty often lies in understanding patent language). Some examples of recent solutions for reducing the demand of energy that are relatively easy to implement, are: · Energy-saving water heat pump: this “all-in-one” heat pump is an energy-efficient system that uses a natural refrigerant with low global warming potential, complies with EU standards, and features smart grid functionality to optimize operation based on energy costs; · Ultra-efficient LED lighting: an ultra-efficient LED light series that consumes 40% less energy than conventional LEDs, delivers an industry-leading 200 lm/W efficiency, and lasts 3.5 times longer than standard LED lamps; · Glass coating on windows to filter solar radiation: a window insulation-enhancing film that is sprayed on the glass surface of the window to form a layer of conductive metal oxide that absorbs and blocks IR and UV radiation, reducing cooling needs on hot days; · Low-E glass doors: Low-E glass doors having a coating that blocks IR and UV light while letting visible light pass through to improve supermarket energy efficiency that stabilizes refrigeration temperatures, lowers energy costs, and minimizes condensation for easier maintenance. Some solutions have a big impact on your energy consumption, others a smaller one. Nevertheless, doing nothing will definitely not change the situation. Important to realize is that if you decide to implement a solution based on a patent, make sure not to infringe the respective patent. If in doubt, ask a patent attorney for advice.
