    Algemeen Octrooi- en Merkenbureau (AOMB) is an international firm that advises and assists companies and institutions with all aspects of intellectual property (IP).     AOMB has five offices in the Netherlands and works with firms in Germany, England and France through the AIPEX alliance. We have around 70 staff in total.

    Having worked in the field of intellectual property for over 55 years we also have extensive knowledge of patents, trademarks, designs, licences, plant breeders’ rights and copyright. We have a strong position in the high tech sector and demand for our services is increasing. To continue to meet that demand, we are looking to recruit a trainee patent attorney with a strong background in electrical engineering, telecommunications, computer science, pure or applied physics, mathematics or a similar discipline. As a trainee patent attorney in the high tech sector, you will work with an experienced patent attorney to become an independent IP consultant. You will receive practical training in all aspects of the profession and will also complete a postgraduate qualification as a patent attorney.

Your mentor will play an important part in this, together with our onboarding programme which will give you plenty of opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences with other trainees. You will be involved from day one and will experience every aspect of the profession. As a patent attorney, you will draft patent applications, manage the grant process, perform searches of third-party patents, attack competitors’ patents and conduct litigation. You will also take part in the professional training programme. Besides intellectual challenge and opportunities for development, AOMB also offers excellent terms of employment.

    About you
    You have a degree or a PhD in electrical engineering, telecommunications, computer science, pure or applied physics or mathematics and preferably specialise or have a particular interest in telecommunications, digital signal processing, data processing and/or software. You ideally also have a number of years’ work experience and an interest in legal processes. You are also keen finally to develop your own client portfolio. You have an excellent command of Dutch and English and are available for a minimum of 32 hours a week.
