The European plastic recycling industry faces challenges: strict food-grade regulations and competition from cheaper virgin plastics. The EU aims for 30% recycled plastic by 2030, with the Netherlands targeting 2027.

Top 5 ways to boost recycling practices:

1. Encouraging companies to choose recycled materials through additional incentives may be effective.

2. Embracing local upcycling projects.

3. Designing plastics to be easily recyclable.

4. Expanding the use of recycled plastics in non-food applications can improve market reach and cost efficiency.

5. Enhancing business models through the patenting and licensing of advanced recycling technologies can accelerate market adoption and profitability.
